From the age of four, Kate knew very clearly that she wanted to be a writer and before she could even read or write would sit for hours writing pages and pages of squiggles. As a teenager she gave her Maths teacher a nervous breakdown because she refused to engage in his lessons, preferring to instead sit at the back of the class and write poetry.
After having children, Kate became fascinated by the world of complementary medicine and in 1996 qualified as a homeopath. Since then she has studied human nature through a number of disciplines and her work in this field has become an amalgamation of these, the focus being on teaching the Integration of Psychology and Substance into Source. The thing she most loves about this work is listening to the stories of people’s lives – hearing the mystery of life unfold.
Kate brings this depth of understanding to her writing and loves the process of creating vivid, memorable characters. As well as novels for 8-12 year-old girls she also writes picture book texts and is currently working on a coming-of-age film.
Having grown-up in London Kate now lives in Somerset with her husband, Daniel. Their beautiful composite family of five grown-up children and their little Grandson, Freddy, frequently arrive unannounced, eat the entire contents of the fridge and then leave! It’s a good job she loves them all so very much.
Kate also loves: chocolate, films, eating out, reading, writing and lying on sunny beaches in beautiful parts of the world.
She doesn’t like: peppermint or honey.
