Ciaran Murtagh, author of Blackbeard and the Monster of the Deep, worked with 40 pupils at Addington School during the autumn term, helping them……to produce four collaborative stories.

He returned to the school in Woodlands Avenue, Woodley, before the summer break to see the finished product.

Yvonne Edwards, whole school co-ordinator for literacy, said: “The pupils absolutely loved it.

“They worked in small groups within each class and an adult would act as a scribe for their ideas and their imagination.

“We had a small print run of 100 copies and each student got one and there are some available in return for a small donation.”
