A Cupboard Full of Coats, the debut novel by Yvvette Edwards, has been shortlisted for the 2012 Commonwealth Book Prize. Yvvette is one of only three British writers to be shortlisted.  The Bookseller has reported…

…the Chair of the Commonwealth Book Prize, Margaret Busby, as saying, ‘Being a prize for first novels, the judges were looking for potential and promise from the entries. We certainly found what we were hoping for with some consummately accomplished writing from some very interesting writers.’

The five regional winners will be announced on the 22nd May, and the overall winners will be named on the 8th June.

A Cupboard Full of Coats was longlisted for the 2011 Man Booker Prize, and was shortlisted for the Writers’ Guild Award 2011.
