An interview with B24/7 featured Jane Shemilt in her upcoming headline at…

…Novel Nights next month, November 20th. Hosted by Emma Smith Barton and Grace Palmer, the event will feature Jane and her debut novel Daughter, which has made her “Richard and Judy Book Club’s autumn favourite.” Gathering at The Lansdown Pub in Bristol, these events are where Jane says writers can “share the passion which even your nearest and dearest can struggle to understand…everyone needs a tribe and…Novel Nights is where you can turn up and find it.”

The article further writes of Jane’s home connection to Bristol:

“Bristol offers a vast landscape of creative possibilities. The city and the docks are redolent of history…and of many different places. Some of them tightly juxtaposed. In my book I used the sharp difference between the protagonist’s home and work to deepen her conflicted sense of identity.”

In her reflection, she also mentions Fergus McNeill’s Cut Out as a “compelling example of contemporary fiction based in Bristol.” And in more exciting news, she reveals that her second book, currently being edited with [planned for] publication next summer, is actually set in Botswana and London.
