Parenting expert Sarah Ockwell-Smith has contributed to an article on digital detoxes for children in this week’s The Telegraph.
In the piece, entitled ‘Eight ways to wean your child off their smartphone‘, Sarah, author of Because I Said So and Between: A Guide for Parents of Eight to Thirteen-Year-Olds, shares her tips on how parents can encourage their children to spend less time looking at screens, from taking the time to explain their decisions to giving up their own phone.
Sarah’s latest guide and urgent call to action, Because I Said So, is out now.
Society is making great strides in increasing awareness of oppression and injustice, but one group remain mistreated, with unequal human rights, and remains under-discussed: children.
A timely book blending childcare history, sociology, psychology, anthropology and current affairs and pop-culture coverage, Because I Said So aims to raise awareness of a much undiscussed issue, but one that will surely be spoken of increasingly in the future. It is an urgent call to action, as Sarah argues that if we want to change the world for the better, we must start with treating our children better.
