Sarah Coyle, author of Pick a Story: A Dinosaur Unicorn Robot Adventure, the fantastically fun and adventurous second book in the smash-hit ‘pick your own’ picture book series, has penned a piece for BookTrust about the importance of children having choice in what they read.
In the piece, which you can read in full here, Sarah explains how “being given choices is the first way we learn how to define ourselves. Choice encourages our creativity, harnesses our engagement and gives us a real sense of ownership,” but that, when writing for children, it’s also about getting the balance right as “choice overload is tantrum territory. Sometimes even the mightiest brains need simplicity…”
Sarah’s latest picture book, Pick a Story: A Dinosaur Unicorn Robot Adventure is out now. Grab your copy here or, better, via your local bookshop or Bookshop.org.
