Chris Barkley, the Edinburgh Book Festival’s Writer in Residence, has recorded an atmospheric reading of his short story ‘The Jam Jar Forest’ and given an interview for BBC Upload. You can listen to both here from 1:14:30.

Discussing the piece, which he wrote a few years ago, with host Leo Ulph, Chris said it explores “time, memory, landscape, and how those things are interwoven”.

In his interview with Ulph, Chris also talked about his own writing, his work sharing stories with people for the Edinburgh Book Festival, how writing resonates with others and creates a sense of empathy, automatic writing, and how writing is a way to process and understand the world.
