Dr Kirren Schnack, the clinical psychologist, social media sensation and author of Ten Times Calmer, has shared her top 10 tips on how to quickly calm anxiety.
As reported in an article in the New York Post, which you can read in full here, Dr Kirren recommends “holding yourself tightly, singing, humming or chanting, counting backward from 100, massaging near your jaw, performing three sets of exercises, breathing deeply, slashing cold water on your face, repeating a calming phrase, relaxing each muscle group and visualizing yourself in a calm place.” Find the original TikTok video here.
In Ten Times Calmer Dr Kirren offers a first aid kit of tools to help you understand what you’re going through and change how you’re feeling – and it might just be easier than you think.
Not everyone has access to therapy and not everyone needs it, but we could all do with a little more calm in our lives. The ten chapters cover everything from dealing with anxious thoughts and stress to managing uncertainty and safely tackling trauma, each takes you a step closer to an anxiety-free life. Inside you’ll find short anxiety busting exercises with a big impact and a toolkit of well-researched and clinically proven tips that will help you find calm each and every day.
Dr Kirren’s debut book, Ten Times Calmer, is out now. Grab your US copy here and your UK copy here or, better, via your local bookshop or Bookshop.org.
