These Streets, the absorbing new novel by Women’s Prize-longlisted author Luan Goldie, has been chosen as one of eleven books to be pitched at this year’s Books at Berlinale at the Berlin International Film Festival 2023.

In the announcement, which you can read here, Books at Berlinale writes:

“Set on the streets of East London, These Streets is a powerful and stirring novel that explores how we can find our place in a world that only seems to support the privileged.”

These Streets will be presented along with the other ten books as “exceptional examples of literary material that lend themselves to adaptation.” The event, Berlinale Co-Production Market at Books at Berlinale, in cooperation with Frankfurter Buchmesse, will take place on Monday 20th February.

Newham has an Olympic stadium, its own airport, and a direct train to Paris. But the borough also has one of the highest rates of homelessness in England.

Jessica lives in the borough with her two teenage children, Hazel and Jacob, but a catastrophic string of bad luck costs her her job and home within a few days.

But in the darkness there is hope; her estranged brother returns and she meets the man of her dreams. Can she turn things around and save her family?
