News  ·  Teen Expert Sarah Ockwell-Smith on Financial Rewards For Good Grades

Sarah Ockwell-Smith

Sarah Ockwell-Smith, the parenting expert and author of How to Raise a TeenBecause I Said So and How to Be a Calm Parent, has written a piece on why she refuses to pay her teenagers for getting ‘good’ exam grades.

In the article for GoodtoKnow, which you can read in full here, Sarah shares her top five reasons why she is not a fan of rewarding based on exam grades. She writes:

“Theoretically, a teen taking their GCSEs this year could receive over one thousand pounds from their parents if they hit all grade As. While this cash boost is usually well received by teens, many experts, including myself, have criticised this approach and believe that it can do more harm than good.”

How to Raise a Teen is out now. Grab it here or, better, via your local bookshop or Bookshop.org.
