News  ·  First Slum Event

Yvvette Edwards, author of Booker longlisted A Cupboard Full of Coats, flies to Brazil tomorrow, November 9th, to the FLUPP International Literary Festival. She will speak to readers in Rio’s slum communities in the first literary event to be held in Brazil’s Favelas…

…This is the first time a literary event will happen in a slum in Brazil. Aiming to promote an “intercultural dialogue” FLUPP curator Toni Marques has described the event as “all about bridges, like the new Brazil and Rio are, but bridges linking different experiences as well, here and abroad, that share common grounds. For instance, occupation and resistance narratives from war zones may touch the hearts and minds of generations of slums residents who once were more like hostages in a lawless territory, instead of citizens.”

Yvvette will have a public interview and will also give a reading of her debut novel, A Cupboard Full of Coats.
