Katy, creator of the ‘Making Them Readers’ blog, has reviewed Kate Scott’s Spies in Disguise: Boy in Tights. “The book has a great …… mix of humour and adventure,” she says, as well as “something for both boy and girl readers.”
“This is an easy, fun read for children aged six to ten/eleven. Although it is written from Joe’s point of view, his double life and experiences as a girl mean that it will appeal to both boys and girls. It is also very funny, which instantly gives the book more crossover appeal.
As a children’s librarian I am always looking for good transitional or chapter books, which will appeal to children and help them move from picture books to novels with ease. I highly recommend Spies in Disguise: Boy in Tights for this purpose.”
