Gary is from Dublin, Ireland. He predominantly writes autofiction.

In 2023 Avoid Getting Shot in the Head was shortlisted for The London Magazine Short Story Prize and An Irish Wedding in Marbella and Subsequent Email I Sent My Ex-Wife was shortlisted for the LOFT Books Prize. In 2024 he was part of the cohort for The Stinging Fly summer school and his story The Woman in the Water was published in The Pig’s Back.

Gary spent eight years studying and playing competitive basketball in the United States, followed by a period teaching English and playing in Spain and Argentina. He and his partner live in Somerset.
