Rae Earl was born in Stamford, Lincolnshire in 1971. After messing about at school, she went to Hull University and won the Phillip Larkin prize for her research into dystopian novels. She then did every job in a radio station except ‘accountant’. Her memoirs, My Mad Fat Diary & My Madder Fatter Diary, have been made into a TV show that is shown in over 50 countries worldwide including the USA, Brazil, South Korea & Morocco. My Mad Fat Diary has been nominated for 2 BAFTAS, 2 RTS awards, an international Emmy award and has won 2 MIND Media awards.
Her mental heath guide It’s All in Your Head was published in August 2017.
Her OMG! series of books prompted one person to write to her to say, “I didn’t bother reading anything before but I loved this & now I’m going to start”, which Rae regards as one of her greatest achievements. ‘Millie’ in #help! My Cat’s a Vlogging Superstar is based on Rae as a younger woman. Anxiety, common sense, cat obsession and all.
Rae has written articles for The Guardian, Marie Claire, Elle, Elle Australia and Sarah Millican’s The Standard Issue online magazine and has featured in The Telegraph, Heat, Grazia and The Times.
She has also appeared on BBC Breakfast TV, Radio 4, Radio 5Live, BBC World Service & countless local radio stations.
