Suad Kamardeen is an award-winning writer and editor whose work bears witness to the lives, histories, and cultures of Black Muslim women. A graduate of the MSt in Creative Writing at the University of Oxford, her young adult novel won the SI Leeds Literary Prize 2022 and was runner-up for the FAB Prize 2021, while her adult novel was shortlisted for the Stylist Prize for Feminist Fiction 2021. Her short fiction was longlisted for the 2024 Commonwealth Short Story Prize and has appeared in Extra Teeth, Lolwe, Rowayat, Sapelo Square, Peepal Tree Press, and WAYF Journal. Suad founded Qalb Writers Collective, a community where Muslim women writers stop shrinking and start thriving, and co-founded WAYF Journal, creating space for voices systematically excluded from mainstream literary institutions. In October 2026, Suad will begin a PhD in Creative and Critical Writing at the University of East Anglia, where her research examines how AI technologies extract and reconstruct the memories of Black Muslim women without consent. She is currently working on her next project.
