Britain, AD 423. The Roman Province of Britannia has collapsed. Its roads are broken, its cities abandoned, and beyond the crumbling Wall in the North, the wilderness swallowing everything the so-called Roamers left behind.
A lone scavenger wanders those forgotten lands with only a dog for company. His skin is covered in strange tattoos—maps, names, and symbols, all inked to replace his memories which have faded to nothing. That is until one day he discovers a woman and a young boy hiding in the ruins of an old Roamer fort in the North. The painted man reluctantly takes pity on them and agrees to help them travel south to safety and cross the ruin of Hadrian’s Wall. But he soon discovers that their trouble is following close behind. The three are forced into a desperate journey across a land where every mile is haunted by the ghosts of Rome, contending with slavers, wild animals, and the mythic echoes of the land’s past.
As their journey takes them ever further south past wasted towns and crumbling aqueducts, the painted man’s memories begin to return—and if he is to have any hope of helping his
new companions, he must face the withered figure that haunts him, and the past he left behind in the ruins.
