Tia Fisher‘s Carnegie-winning debut novel in verse, Crossing the Line, has been included in the Children’s Books Ireland list of recommended reading for secondary school students.

In its review, CBI writes:

“Erik’s happiness is shattered by the death of his father and becoming the target of bullies at his new school. Forced prematurely into adult responsibilities, being a substitute father and worrying about money, poverty, fear and resentment propel him increasingly into criminality. Told in verse format, using aspects of concrete poetry, which are engaging and evocative, Fisher’s narrative compellingly illustrates how vulnerable young people can be exploited. A deceptively sophisticated and empathetic read.”
