In a record-breaking year, the prestigious Mind Media Awards 2014 honoured powerful media portrayals, which included My Mad Fat Diary……on its exceptional shortlist. Taking place at the BFI, all of the entries in categories of Drama, Factual TV and Entertainment will go head-to-head on Monday 17 November and then awarded by the mental health charity Mind.

Judged by a panel of media industry experts, each shortlist entry will be evaluated on whether it challenges common perceptions of mental health, is well-crafted and responsibly produced, is safe for intended audiences and whether it reaches new audiences.

After receiving hundreds of entries, the honest and hilarious TV series adaption of Rae Earl’s My Mad Fat Diary (aired on E4) has been shortlisted in the Drama category, competing against period drama ‘Call the Midwife,’ children’s TV show ‘The Dumping Ground,’ and medical drama ‘Casualty’.

My Mad Fat Diary is a comedy drama looking at life from the perspective of funny, music-obsessed Rae, who recently left a psychiatric hospital. We continue to follow her journey in the second series through Rae’s therapy, hearing her innermost candid diary thoughts, and as Rae reveals that she has mental health problems to her friends.
